Mahwah, N.J. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team suffered its second straight loss on Wednesday following a hard fought 11-9 defeat on the road at Ramapo. Junior
Katie Gattoni (Old Tappan, N.J.) led the Knights' offensive attack with four goals and six points.
Ramapo jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead over the first 10:50 of the contest, before the Knights ripped off the next four goals to take their first lead of the game.
Jen Gries (Hicksville, N.Y.) got the Knights on the board and Gattoni scored consecutive goals to push the Mount in front 4-3 with just under 12 minutes left before halftime.
After the two teams traded goals, Ramapo tallied twice in the final five minutes of the first half to carry a slim 6-5 lead into the intermission. Brianna Himpele and Molly Warner scored just under two minutes apart to give the Roadrunners the halftime lead.
Mount Saint Mary finished the first half with a 12-11 advantage in shots, while Ramapo entered the break with an 11-10 edge in groundballs and a 7-6 advantage in draw controls.
Gries brought the Mount even at 6-6 with her second goal of the game early in the second half, but Ramapo answered with four straight goals to open a 10-6 advantage with 18:02 left in regulation.
Following the Gries goal, Mount Saint Mary went over 10 minutes without a tally, but ripped off three straight goals in a nearly 13 minute stretch to get to within a goal with 4:53 left to play.
Claire Duffy (Monroe, N.Y.) scored twice and Gattoni added her fourth of the game over the stretch.
Leading by a goal, Ramapo would seal the win with a draw control win and goal from Katie Duca with 37 seconds left to close out the scoring.
Gattoni's scoring output pushed her team lead in goals to 31, assists to 11 and points to 42. She added a groundball and a caused turnover in the game.
Gries and Duffy each scored two goals for Mount Saint Mary, with Duffy closing the day with four groundballs, six caused turnovers and six draw controls.
Morgan Cordes (Sound Beach, N.Y.) caused three turnovers for the Knights, with
Kathleen McGinnis (Shelton, Conn.) adding a goal, three groundballs and three caused turnovers.
Himpele, Lindsay Hughes and Alyssa Tachon each scored twice for Ramapo, with Hughes leading the way with five draw controls. Lacey Gruendling and Warner led the Roadrunners with four groundballs apiece.

Amanda Picillo (Valley Stream, N.Y.) finished the day with eight saves for the Mount, with Jessica Meyers earing the win with 12 stops for Ramapo.
The Knights closed the game with a 25-23 edge in shots and a 22-19 advantage in shots on goal. Ramapo took the advantage in the game in groundballs 18-12 and draw controls 14-10.
Wednesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary back to the .500 mark at 4-4 overall. The Knights will open Skyline Conference play on Saturday when the play host to Farmingdale State on Friends of Jaclyn Day. Opening Draw with the Rams is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
