Knights Close Regular Season With Road Win At St. Joseph’s-L.I.; Enter League Tournament As Fourth Seed

Knights hold most wins in a season since 2012-13

Patchogue, N.Y. – Led by 16 points from Jessica Rini (Seaford, N.Y.) and 12 points off the bench from freshman Elizabeth Limonta (Stewart Manor, N.Y.), the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team completed the regular season on Saturday with a 58-44 road win at St. Joseph's-L.I. The Knights will enter next week's conference tournament as the fourth seed, hosting Farmingdale State on Tuesday night.

The Knights entered the second period on Saturday trailing 11-10, before outscoring the Golden Eagles 17-8 to carry a 27-19 lead into halftime. Freshman Kassidy Hallum (Lake Grove, N.Y.) gave the Mount a 13-11 lead with a triple in the early stages of the second quarter, before the Mount used an 11-0 run to jump in front 24-13.

Rini and classmate Bridget Kelly (Farmington, Conn.) led the charge over the run, each scoring four points. Following a Carmela Gampero jumper that tied the score at 13-13 with 8:05 left before halftime, the Mount did not allow another point until a Claire Brady triple with just under two minutes remaining in the second period.

Mount Saint Mary held St. Joseph's to 26.7-percent shooting the half and outrebounded the Golden Eagles 26-17, including 7-3 on the offensive end before the break. Limonta paced the Knights in the first half with eight points and six rebounds.

Coming out of halftime, Mount Saint Mary maintained at least a five point advantage in the third quarter and moved in front 37-27 on a Kayla Cleare (West Hempstead, N.Y.) bucket with just under four minutes left in the quarter. The Knights ballooned their lead to 17 points on a Daisha Madden (Baltimore, Md.) bucket late in the stanza before entering the fourth period with a 46-30 edge.

Despite being outscored in the final stanza, Mount Saint Mary never allowed St. Joseph's closer than 10 points in securing its 13th win of the season. The win total is the most for the program since posting 18 during the 2012-13 campaign.

Rini finished the contest 7-for-15 from the floor and chipped in seven rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals for the Knights. Limonta scored in double-figures for the third time this season, going 5-for-7 from the floor and adding a team-high nine rebounds.
