Mount Saint Mary Holds Off St. Joseph’s-L.I. In Season Finale

Wolff posts double-double

Patchogue, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball team stopped its six game losing streak and ended the 2015-16 season on Saturday with a 67-63 road conference win at St. Joseph's-L.I. Four Knights scored in double-figures in the game, led by 16 points from sophomore Daniel Wolff (Holtsville, N.Y.).

Tightly contested throughout the first half, neither team could move in front by more than three points until a Wolff three-pointer pushed the Mount in front 31-27 with just under three minutes left before halftime. The triple was part of a 12-0 run that saw the Knights take a 36-27 lead on a Connor Bacci (Bayside, N.Y.) three-pointer with 1:13 remaining in the first stanza.

St. Joseph's would cut the disadvantage to six on a three-pointer after going over four minutes without a point. Bacci pushed the halftime lead to eight for the Mount with a lay-in with 31 seconds left in the half, sending the Knights into the intermission with a 38-30 lead.

The Knights ran its lead to 12 points out of the break and on back-to-back conversions from Tyler McDine (Suffern, N.Y.) and T.J. Andy Laurent would later bring St. Joseph's to within four points, before a Connor Nicholson (State Island, N.Y.) three-pointer spread the lead back to 51-44 midway through the second half. The Knights would jump back in front by 11 on a Gerard Nocera (Holmdel, N.J.) bucket and pushed the lead to 15 points on a Wolff jumper with 5:34 left to play.

St. Joseph's would string together a 7-0 run and hold the Mount without a point for nearly three minutes to pull back to within 59-51 with 2:54 left. The Knights would see their lead whittled down to three points  with 61 seconds left, but a Nicholson transition bucket got the lead back to five points with 56 seconds remaining.

An Andy Laurent triple brought St. Joseph's to within a single point with 16 seconds left, but a pair of Bacci free-throws and a conversion from the line from Austin Stewart (New Paltz, N.Y.) closed out the game for the Mount.
