Bronxville, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary Men's Basketball team suffered its fourth straight loss and its sixth defeat in its last seven outings on Thursday night with a 76-56 road loss at league foe Sarah Lawrence. Sophomore
Gerard Nocera (Holmdel, N.J.) and freshman
T.J. Patsalos (Newburgh, N.Y.) each scored 12 points for the Knights.
Mount Saint Mary scored the first four points of the game on Thursday to take its only lead of the contest with Patsalos converting a pair of free-throws inside the first minute of the game and
Connor Bacci (Bayside, N.Y.) converting a layup at the 18:10 mark to get the Knights off to a quick start in game.
Sarah Lawrence answered with eight of the next 10 points to move in front 8-6 and took the lead for good in the game on a three-pointer from Gabe Eng that pushed the Gryphons in front 11-8 just under five minutes into the game.
The Eng triple started a 15-4 run for Sarah Lawrence that saw it move in front 23-12 with 10:59 to go before the break. Following a Nocera jumper with 10:37 left in the half, the Knights went nearly six minutes without a field goal and saw the Gryphons close the frame on a 19-9 spurt to carry a 42-23 lead into the intermission.
Mount Saint Mary finished the half shooting 35.7-percent and went 0-for-4 from behind the arc, with Patsalos leading the way with 10 points. Sarah Lawrence converted at a 42.1-percent clip and knocked in five triples in building the halftime advantage.
Sarah Lawrence would maintain at least a 17 point lead throughout the second half and gained a game-high 31 point advantage twice in the middle stages of the second half. The Knights finished the second stanza shooting 25.7-percent and made their lone three-point field goal of the night after halftime.
Nocera finished with 12 points and rounded out the game 5-for-14 from the floor and closed a solid evening with seven rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals. Patsalos also scored 12 points for the Mount, going 5-for-9 from the field.
Sophomore
Daniel Wolff (Holtsville, N.Y.) led the Mount with eight rebounds and chipped in with seven points, while
Angelo Accattato (West Haverstraw, N.Y.) handed out three assists.
The Gryphons, who shot just shy of 42-percent in the game, showed four players in double-figures, led by a game-high 23 points from Mat Gerak. Graham Gilleran chipped in with 16 points and Austin Jones scored 12 points and handed out six assists. Eng closed the game with 13 points and three rebounds.
Mount Saint Mary finished the game shooting 30.2-percent overall, its third lowest percentage of the season.
Thursday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 7-15 overall on the season and to 5-12 in Skyline Conference play. The Knights will return home on Saturday when they welcome Maritime to the Kaplan Center. Tip-off with the Privateers is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
