Purchase, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball team was upended on Tuesday night on the road at Manhattanville by a score of 66-60. Junior
Gerard Nocera (Holmdel, N.J.) was the lone Knight to score in double-figures, leading the team with 17 points.
Mount Saint Mary would trail in the game until it took its first advantage of the night on a
Owen Heath (Jamestown, R.I.) three-pointer that gave the Knights a 20-18 lead just over 12 minutes into the game. After a pair of Willie Britton free-throws moved the Valiants back in front 21-20, the two team would trade the lead three times over the next nearly three minutes.
Back-to-back conversions from
Connor Bacci (Bayside, N.Y.) and Nocera pushed the Mount in front 26-23 and it used a three-point play from
Andrew Holmes (Niskayuna, N.Y.) and a free-throw from
Tyler McDine (Suffern, N.Y.) to take its largest lead of the half, a 33-26 advantage with 57 seconds left before the break.
Mount Saint Mary shot 42.3-percent from the floor in the opening period and held Manhattanville to a 30-percent effort on its way to a 33-29 lead at the break. Heath led the Knights at the break with seven points after going 2-for-4 from the floor with a three-pointer.
Daniel Wolff (Holtsville, N.Y.) spread the Mount's lead back to seven with a triple in the opening minute of the second half and a Wolff lay-in at the 17:47 mark of the second half gave the Knights their largest lead of the game at 40-32.
Following the Wolff conversion, Manhattanville went on a 19-3 run covering over nine minutes to move in front 51-43 on a Brian Haggerty three-pointer with 8:38 left in regulation time. The Knights would slice its disadvantage down to a single point on a Nocera three-pointer with 4:07 left, but the Valiants pushed their lead back to seven on an Alex Tuci triple and knocked in three free-throws in the final half minute to seal the win.
Manhattanville shot 44.8-percent overall in the second half and went 7-for-11 from bonus distance on its way to the come-from-behind victory. Tuci scored 20 of his game-high 25 points after halftime, going 7-for-10 from the field, including 4-for-4 from three-point range after the break.
Nocera reached double-figures for the fifth time this season, netting 17 points on 6-for-12 shooting. Wolff finished with eight points, five assists and a team-high nine rebounds, with
Kendall Francis (Great Neck, N.Y.) matching his career-high with eight points.
The Knights shot 37.3-percent from the floor in the game and went 5-for-18 from behind the arc. The Mount was outrebounded 43-35, including 13-7 on the offensive end leading to a 15-6 advantage for the Valiants in second chance points.
Tuesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary back to the .500 mark overall at 3-3. The Knights will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they play host to Utica. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
