Newburgh, N.Y. – In a makeup of the originally schedule November 22 contest, the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball team will make the trip to Purchase, N.Y. for a non-conference battle with Manhattanville Tuesday night. At A Glance: The Mount stands at 3-2 overall on the season and is coming off back-to-back conference wins at Sage on Thursday and at Purchase on Saturday. In a 99-96 thriller over the weekend, the Mount sent the game to overtime with a tying buzzer beater from
Connor Bacci (Bayside, N.Y.) and then won the game in the extra period as
Tyler McDine (Suffern, N.Y.) beat the horn to move the Mount to 2-0 against Skyline Conference opponents.
Gerard Nocera (Holmdel, N.J.) led six Knights in double-figures with 22 points, with
Daniel Wolff (Holtsville, N.Y.) and
T.J. Patsalos (Newburgh, N.Y.) combining for 30 points and 18 rebounds. The Knights shot 45.5-percent overall in the game, including a 56-percent effort (14-for-25) from three-point range.
Through five games, Nocera is leading the Mount's offensive attack with 12.4 points per game and is one of three players averaging in double-figures. Wolff is good for 12.0 points per night and Patsalos is checking in with just shy of 11 points per outing.
Wolff paces the Knights on the glass with 7.0 rebounds per game, while McDine is handing out 3.0 assists per contest. Bacci is converting at better than 63-percent from behind the arc (7-for-11) and Patsalos is shooting just under 93-percent (13-for-14) from the free-throw line.
As a team, the Knights are averaging 72.6 points per game and are shooting 39.9-percent from the floor. The Mount is shooting just over 34-percent from bonus distance and leads the conference in free-throw percentage, shooting 78.5-percent as a team.
Scouting Manhattanville: The Valiants enter Tuesday's contest at 2-3 and are coming off a tough 64-61 loss to cross-town rival Purchase on November 29. Willie Britton came off the bench to go 9-for-13 from the floor and lead the Valiants in scoring with 21 points, while Alex Tuci finished off a strong game with 15 points and seven rebounds.
Tuci and Britton are tied for the team lead in scoring heading into the contest with 16.8 points per game, while Charles Nardone rounds out a trio averaging double-figures with 13.4 points per game. Tuci is averaging a double-double with a team-high 10.5 rebounds per game and is shooting 46-percent from the floor and 45.5-percent from three-point range.
As a unit, Manhattanville is averaging 68.4 points per game and is shooting 41.5-percent from the field. The Valiants are outrebounded by nearly three boards per game and are averaging just shy of 10 assists per contest.
Recent History: The two sides have played just twice since Manhattanville departed the Skyline Conference following the 2006-07 season. Since the start of the 2006-07 campaign, the Knights are 1-4 against Manhattanville with the lone win coming in the 2013-14 season.
What's Next: Mount Saint Mary will return home on December 10 to play host to Utica before heading back out on the road for the short trip to New Paltz on December 13.
