Cirigliano’s Career-High Kill Total Leads Mount Saint Mary Past Mount Saint Vincent

Cirigliano posts career-high in kills, Maddock hands out career-high assist total

Riverdale, N.Y. – Senior Angelia Cirigliano (Newburgh, N.Y.) put away a career-high 22 kills and classmate Kristen Maddock (Medford, N.Y.) handed out a career best 48 assists on Monday night as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team outlasted defending conference champion Mount Saint Vincent in five sets by scores of 25-18, 20-25, 21-25, 26-24, 15-11.

After forcing the Dolphins into more attack errors than kills in the opening frame in opening a 1-0 lead, the Knights dropped the next two sets, including the third frame in which the Dolphins hit .378 as a unit. The Knights opened an 18-16 lead in the third, but saw Mount Saint Vincent close on a 9-2 run to open a 2-1 lead in the match.

Trailing 21-19 in the fourth stanza, the Knights closed on a 4-0 run to even the match at 2-2. The Dolphins committed three straight miscues and Nicole Spinelli (Wantagh, N.Y.) finished off a kill to close out the frame.

In a back-and-forth fifth set, the Knights used a 3-0 run, keyed by kills from Cirigliano and Megan Williams (Glenmont, N.Y.), to move in front 12-10 and used a Rachel Sabatini (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) kill in a 3-0 closing run to secure the victory.

Cirigliano blew past her previous career-high of 15 kills on Monday with 22 in 54 attempts. She finished off the match with 20 digs, just one off her career mark, and three total blocks. She was the only Knight to reach double-figures in kills and was one of four Knights with at least 12 digs.

Williams closed the evening with nine winners for the Mount and four total blocks, while Spinelli put away eight kills to go along with four blocks. Freshman Morgan Burke (Ringwood, N.Y.) led the Mount with five blocks in the match and added four kills.

Maddock bested her previous career mark in assists by four and equaled the match-high in the category with 48. She added 15 digs, two service aces and a pair of blocks. Julimar Figueroa (Dorado, Puerto Rico) lifted a career-high 24 digs on Monday and Jackie Survilla (West Islip, N.Y.) produced 12 digs and a team-high four service aces.

Mount Saint Vincent was led by a match-high 27 kills from Tara Maloney who added 20 digs in the match. Chrissy Sewell led all players with 28 digs on Monday and Nicole Henderson rounded out the night with 48 helpers and 11 digs.

Overall, Mount Saint Vincent held a 55-54 advantage in kills, while the Knights dominated the service game 10-4 in aces and the blocking battle, 9-2.
