Purchase, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team returned to conference play on Saturday and split a pair of matches, downing Purchase in straight sets 25-5, 25-9, 25-5 and falling to Farmingdale State 22-25, 16-25, 14-25. Freshman
Morgan Burke (Ringwood, N.J.) hit .556 in the win over the Panthers.
Mount Saint Mary cruised to its third league win of the season in Saturday's opener, hitting .290 as a team in the win. Ten different players recorded a kill in the match, led by five from Burke who did not commit an attack error in nine attempts.
Jackie Survilla (West Islip, N.Y.) finished with four winners and six service aces for the Knights with
Ally Klesin (Glendale, N.Y.),
Madelyn Barberan (Fishkill, N.Y.) and
Angelia Cirigliano (Newburgh, N.Y.) each recording three winners.
Sophomore
Kim Gries (Hicksivlle, N.Y.) led the Knights with 10 assists, while senior
Kristen Maddock (Medford, N.Y.) handed out seven assists and totaled five service aces.
Lauren LeGere (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) led the way on the backline with a career-high eight digs.
Megan Williams (Glenmont, N.Y.) chipped in with six aces on the day.
The Knights held Purchase to just three kills in the match as the Panthers hit -.098. The Knights put away 26 winners in the match and posted 25 aces, blowing away the previous three set record of 13 set against St. Joseph's-L.I. in 2007 and then again against Bard in 2009.
Against Farmingdale State, the Knights were held to a -.010 attack percentage, committing 23 errors and 22 kills in the contest. The Mount managed just five aces against the Rams and allowed 12 in their first league loss of the season.
Cirigliano led the offensive attack with six kills, adding six digs and three service aces. Williams and Burke each finished with five winners against the Rams, with Burke posting a team-high two total blocks.
Maddock handed out a team-high 10 assists in the loss, with Barberan leading the way for the Knights with nine digs.
Farmingdale State finished the match with a 30-22 edge in kills and dominated the blocking game 11-3 on Saturday.
Following Saturday's split, Mount Saint Mary moves to 11-14 overall and to 3-1 in Skyline Conference action. The Knights return to play on Sunday when they close the home schedule against Maritime and St. Joseph's-L.I. Matches are set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
