Women’s Tennis Closes Regular Season With Four Matches This Week

Knights play three of final four matches on the road

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team will close the 2016 regular season with four matches in five days this week. The Knights will play three of their final four contests on the road with the lone home match set for Thursday afternoon against league rival Purchase.
 
At A Glance: The Knights have dropped four of their last five matches heading into Wednesday's road contest at York and stand at 4-8 overall and 2-3 against Skyline Conference opponents. Three of the Mount's four wins on the year have come at home, topping Sarah Lawrence, New Rochelle and St. Joseph's-Brooklyn in Newburgh.
 
Freshman Michelle Carnovale (Massapequa, N.Y.) has had a standout rookie season for the Knights and has been tabbed the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week in each of last three reporting periods. She is unbeaten at first singles on the season, holding an unblemished 12-0 mark to go along with an 8-4 doubles mark at the top flight with partner, senior Alissa Gileau (East Granby, Conn.).
 
Two other players have a singles mark above the .500 mark for the Mount in 2016, with newcomer Miyanna Vernon (Liberty, N.Y.) posting a 6-5 mark and sophomore Mikayla Zaccaria (Point Lookout, N.Y.) posting a 7-4 record. Vernon is 4-2 at fifth singles thus far, while Zaccaria holds a perfect 5-0 mark at the fourth position for the Knights.
 
A Look At York: The Mount will open its busy week on the road at York on Wednesday afternoon. The Cardinals enter the match at 0-7 overall and 0-4 against CUNYAC foes.
 
Scouting Purchase: The Panthers come to town on Thursday with a 4-6 overall record and an even 2-2 mark in Skyline Conference play. The Panthers have dropped three of their last five outings overall, but are coming off an 8-1 win against Brooklyn on September 29.
 
Abigail Cuddy paces Purchase with a 6-2 singles record, posting wins at the third, fifth and sixth positions. Erika Fulton is 4-4 at the top flight heading into the weekend, while Tara Persaud and Sofia Rapisarda hold identical 3-0 records.
 
In doubles play, the pair of Cuddy and Cailey McKenna have dominated the third flight, posting an impressive 9-1 record.
 
Farmingdale State At A Glance: The Knights will finish off the conference schedule on Friday when it travels to Farmingdale State. The Rams enter the match winners of their last four outings and are 10-4 overall and 5-1 in league play. Farmingdale State's four match winning streak concluded with a sweep of Brooklyn and included conference wins over Sage, St. Joseph's-Brooklyn and Sarah Lawrence.
 
Kayla Reidy paces the Rams with a 10-3 singles record and is one of five different players with at least seven singles victories on the season. Farmingdale State holds a 49-27 (.645) singles record, including a 26-8 mark in conference play to go along with a 27-12 (.692) mark in doubles action.
 
Breaking Down Berkeley: Mount Saint Mary will close out the regular season on Sunday when it travels to a Berkley for a non-conference contest. No statistics were available, with Berkeley showing a loss to SUNY Delhi on September 24.
