SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – On the final day of the Union Soccer Classic, hosted by Union College, the Mount Saint Mary College men's soccer team was defeated by the tournament's host, 3-0, at College Park Field. The Knights fall to 0-3 on the young season, while Union advances to 2-0-1 on the year, which includes a 1-0-1 record in the Union Soccer Classic.
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the Knights' opponent in Friday's contest, defeated The Sage Colleges on Saturday to go a perfect 2-0 at the Union Soccer Classic.
Union's Carl Faber scored twice for the Dutchmen in the first 10 minutes of Saturday's matchup to give them an early two-goal advantage. The 2-0 lead held for the Dutchmen through halftime, as the Knights managed just one shot on goal in the first frame.
Union pulled ahead by three goals early on in the second stanza when Ethan Strauss netted one in the 53rd minute. The Knights struggled on the attack again in the second half, getting their second shot of the game on net in the final two minutes of the matchup.

Austin Peluso (Farmington, Conn.) stopped five shots and yielded three scores to fall to 0-3 on the season. Union netminder John Weitzman picked up the win, needing just two saves for the shutout.
Union's scorers got help from Strauss, Samuel Eddy and Andrew Fontaine, who all tallied assists in Saturday's matchup.
Union fired off 12 shots in the game, while the Knights managed four. The Dutchmen also took a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
The Knights will look to get their first win of the season on Wednesday, Sept. 9, when they host Bard College in their home opener at Kaplan Field. The game is set to kick off at 8 p.m. immediately following the women's soccer team's 5:30 p.m. matchup against Stevens Institute of Technology.
