Hannah Pascual (Freeport, N.Y.) tallied her second goal of the season as the Mount Saint Mary Women's Soccer team posted a 2-1 Skyline Conference victory over visiting Mount Saint Vincent.
The Knights jumped out to an early lead on Friday when Pascual potted her second goal of the season in the sixth minute to move Mount Saint Mary in front 1-0. She collected a pass inside the box from
Melissa Guillemette (Branford, Conn.) and tucked a shot under bar at the 5:2 mark of the match.
Pascual's goal was the only marker of the first 45 minutes, but the Knights finished the opening stanza with an 11-2 advantage in shots and a 3-1 edge in corner kicks. Mount Saint Vincent's Elizabeth Martin was forced to make seven saves to keep the Dolphins to within a goal.
Mount Saint Vincent got the equalizer in the 61
st minute on Friday on a combination play off a corner kick. Erica Lencsak took a pass from Courtney LaTorre at the top of the box and scored inside the right post to knot the score at 1-1 at the 60:45 mark of the contest.
The Knights answered just under six minutes later when Maini headed in her first goal of the season at 66:18. She headed in a perfect crossing pass off the foot of
Destiny Ribadeneyra (Maybrook, N.Y.) for the eventual game winning marker. The assist was the first of the season for Ribadeneyra
Sophomore goalkeeper
Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) picked up the win for Mount Saint Mary in goal, posting four saves in the game. Martin closed the night with 11 stops for the Dolphins.
Mount Saint Mary finished the game with an 18-7 advantage in shots overall and a 13-5 edge in shots on goal. The Knights also finished with the advantage in corner kicks, 6-3 on the night.
Friday's win moves Mount Saint Mary to 5-3-1 overall on the season and to 2-0-0 in league play. The Knights will be back in action again on Sunday when they welcome Farmingdale State to Kaplan Field. Kick-off with the Rams is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
