NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's tennis team bounced back from a defeat earlier in the day to defeat the College of New Rochelle Sunday afternoon by a score of 9-0. The Knights improve to 1-2 on the year with the win.
The Knights kicked off the match with a sweep of all three doubles matches. The tandem of seniors
Breanna Scott (Highland Falls, N.Y.) and
Katie Conroy (Middletown, N.Y.) picked up the win at No. 1 doubles with an 8-2 victory over Deanna Tazzo and Nancy Varughese. Juniors
Isabella Tartaglione (Pine Bush, N.Y.) and
Alissa Gileau (East Granby, Conn.) defeated Samantha Gomez and Shenique Roye, 8-0, at flight two. Freshman
Mikayla Zaccaria (Point Lookout, N.Y.) and sophomore
Mallory Menneci (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) took down Shirley Garcia and Iyesoqie Aqhallowa, 8-1, in the third doubles match.
Scott got a quick 6-0, 6-2 win over Tazzo at No. 1 singles, and Tartaglione beat Varughese, 6-2, 7-5, in the second singles match. Gileau got the win over Samantha Gomez at flight three, 6-1, 6-0. Senior
Ellen Hendricks (West Point, N.Y.) took the No. 4 singles victory over Roye, 6-0, 6-1. Conroy defeated Marie Gomez at flight five, 6-0, 6-1. Zaccaria closed out singles play with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Aqhallowa at flight six.
The Knights next play on Saturday, Sept. 19, when they host Farmingdale State College in a Skyline Conference bout. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
