Women’s Soccer Handed 2-0 Defeat by Stockton

MADISON, N.J. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's soccer team saw its record fall to an even 3-3 after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Stockton University on Sunday in the final matchup of the Drew Fall Festival, hosted by Drew University. Stockton improved to 5-1 overall with the win.

Marissa Bruno tallied a penalty-kick goal in the 31st minute to give the Ospreys a 1-0 lead in the first half. Chelsea James headed a cross from Lauren Bowler into the net in the 66th minute to provide some insurance for Stockton in the second half, leading to the eventual 2-0 final score.

Nicole Pallante got the shutout victory for the Ospreys, but did not make a single save in the game. Sophomore netminder Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) fell to 3-3 on the year after yielding two goals and stopping 7 shots.

The Ospreys held a 14-5 advantage in shot attempts on Sunday, but held the Knights without a shot on goal. Stockton also picked up the only corner kick in the game.

The Knights will look to bounce back on Wednesday, Sept. 16, when they take on St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn for the first-ever Skyline Conference matchup between the two schools. The game in Brooklyn is set to begin at 6 p.m.
