Women’s Lacrosse Rolls to Record-Setting 20-7 Victory over Maritime

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – In an all-around dominant effort, the Mount Saint Mary College women's lacrosse team (5-5, 3-0 Skyline) rolled to a 20-7 Skyline Conference victory over Maritime College (2-6, 0-3 Skyline) Wednesday evening at Reinhart Field.

The Knights set a new program single-game draw control record with a total of 23 in Wednesday's win. In addition, junior defender Claire Duffy (Monroe, N.Y.) set a new individual record with 14 draw controls in the game, smashing the previous record of nine. In addition, the Knights fell one point short of the program single-game record with 31 in the game. They also fell three goals short of the program record of 23. The 11 total assists were one shy of the team's record of 12. They also took 39 total shots, which is two short of the program-high mark of 41.

Duffy also scooped up a game-high five ground balls, and turned in a three-point effort with a goal and a pair of assists to cap off an impressive evening. Junior midfielder Nicole Scicutella (Massapequa, N.Y.) had the best offensive game of her career, totaling seven points on four goals and three assists to lead the Knights. Junior attacker Shannon McGuinness (Oceanside, N.Y.) doubled her season total with four goals Wednesday evening, adding an assist for a season-best five-point night.

Junior attacker Jen Gries (Hicksville, N.Y.) joined Scicutella in tying for the third most assists in a single game in program history with three, adding two goals for five points. In four games since returning from injury, she has contributed 10 points on six goals and four assists.

Sophomore attacker Katie Gattoni (Old Tappan, N.J.) kept up her record-breaking pace with three more goals and assist. She now has 40 goals and 46 points through nine games, and is currently the single-season leader in points per game (5.11) and goals per game (4.44). With six games remaining on the schedule, she sits just 11 goals and 17 points shy of the single-season program records in both categories.

Kelsey Ireland led the way for Maritime with five points on four goals and an assist. Shannon Brady added two goals, while Caroline Reynolds handed out a pair of assists. Christa Case tied for the game-high with five ground balls.

Freshman goalkeeper Carly Lennon (Bellmore, N.Y.) picked up the win after playing the first 30 minutes between the pipes. Maritime's Christina Finnen allowed 20 goals to suffer the loss.

The Knights got back to their winning ways on Wednesday, and head into a crucial matchup against the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday, April 11, with much-needed momentum. The Skyline Conference matchup on Super Fan Day at Kaplan Field will kick off at 12 p.m.
