NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's tennis team (4-9) was victorious in its only match of the spring season, defeating Western Connecticut State University (3-13), 6-3, Thursday evening on the Mount Saint Mary College Tennis Courts.
The Knights avenged an 8-1 loss suffered at the hands of the Colonials back on Sept. 7, 2014. The Colonials were forced to forfeit three of Thursday's matches from the get-go due to roster conflicts.
Juniors
Ellen Hendricks (West Point, N.Y.) and
Kristen Weindorf (Stockholm, N.J.) were victorious in the No. 2 doubles match over Carine Jacque' and Karen Velez, 8-3. Juniors
Katie Conroy (Middletown, N.Y.) and
Breanna Scott (Highland Falls, N.Y.) were defeated by Angelica Jara and Alexandra Moravsky at flight-one doubles, 8-3.
Jacque defeated sophomore
Isabella Tartaglione (Pine Bush, N.Y.) in a hard-fought No. 2 singles match, 6-2, 2-6, 10-3. Moravsky got the win for West Conn in the No. 3 singles match over Conroy, 6-1, 6-3. The Knights rallied back, starting with a win by Scott in a thrilling No. 1 singles match, 1-6, 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (11-9). Freshman
Mallory Menneci (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) concluded the evening with a 3-6, 7-6, 10-6 victory at No. 4 over Velez.
After their only match of the spring season, the Knights now look forward to an improved 2015 fall season with another year of experience under their belts.
