Gattoni Ties Points Record, other Records Fall as Women’s Lacrosse Drops 20-7 Decision to Farmingdale State

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Sophomore attacker Katie Gattoni (Old Tappan, N.J.) tied the Mount Saint Mary College women's lacrosse single-season points record with a goal in the Knights' (7-7, 5-1 Skyline) 20-7 loss to Farmingdale State College (8-5, 5-1 Skyline) Saturday afternoon. The loss was the Knights' first to a Skyline opponent this season.

Gattoni now has 63 points on the season, tying Kaileen Spadaro's single-season mark from 2012. She set the single-season goals record of 51 back on Thursday, and now has 56 on the year.

Scicutella led the Knights with four goals, four ground balls and five caused turnovers on Saturday. Her five caused turnovers put her at 27 on the season, setting a new single-season record for the Knights.

Junior defender Claire Duffy dished out the only assist for the Knights to go along with three ground balls, four caused turnovers and five draw controls. Duffy sets new single-season records in ground balls (55) and draw controls (73) with Saturday's numbers.

Farmingdale State's Nicole Marzocca had an impressive nine points on Saturday, scoring five times and assisting four other goals. Christy Thoden matched Marzocca with four assists, and scored three times for seven points. Kristen Keller scored four more times for the Rams, and dished out an assist for a five-point afternoon.

Junior midfielder Nicole Scicutella (Massapequa, N.Y.) scored the first three Knight goals in the first half, but 13 goals were scored by the Rams before a different Knights managed to score a goal. Sophomore attacker Fae Kuhnen (Bayside, N.Y.) scored the fourth of the game for the Knights with 4:14 left before the break, but the Rams potted two more for a 15-4 advantage at halftime.

The lead became 17-4 early on in the second frame before Gattoni scored at the 22:04 mark. Scicutella later scored one with under 15 minutes remaining, and freshman attacker Christina Ryan (Franklin Square, N.Y.) netted one with 43 seconds to play, but the Knights ultimately fell, 20-7.

Krista Spagnoletta made seven saves and allowed six goals to pick up the win for Farmingdale State. Freshman goalkeeper Carly Lennon (Bellmore, N.Y.) suffered the loss after yielding 18 goals and making eight stops.

The Knights get a break before completing their Skyline schedule, as they take on local rival Vassar College in non-conference action on Tuesday, April 21. The opening draw from Poughkeepsie, N.Y. is set for 6 p.m.
