FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Freshman midfielder
Dylan De Meo (Franklin Square, N.Y.) tallied six points the Mount Saint Mary College men's lacrosse team's (4-9, 1-3 Skyline) 17-11 loss to Farmingdale State College (7-6, 2-2 Skyline) Saturday afternoon. His season total reaches 43 points, setting a new freshman record for the men's lacrosse program.
The previous record was held by senior attackman
Jake Robison (Franklin Square, N.Y.), who tallied 40 points back in 2012. De Meo's 43 points (26 goals, 17 assists) now stand as the fifth best single-season total in program history.
The Knights held the early advantage in Saturday's conference matchup, as De Meo scored three times to lead the Knights to a 4-2 lead after the first quarter. After a Rams goal in the first minute of the second frame, De Meo scored for a fourth time to keep the Knights up, 5-3. The Rams went on to score 11 straight goals across the next two quarters, leading 14-5 after the run, and 15-7 through three. The Knights scored four goals in the fourth, including the final three of the game, but it was not enough to overcome the Rams' advantage.
Philip Schaefer totaled eight points on five goals and three assists to lead the Rams in their win on Saturday. Michael Cegielski followed with six points on four scores and two assists. Eric Ammirati led all players with five ground balls.
Robison tallied three points in his first game back from injury with a goal and two helpers. Seven different Knights scored in Saturday's contest.
Thomas Fallon picked up the win for the Rams after making eight stops and yielding 10 goals. Freshman goalkeeper
Christopher Doerr (Pleasantville, N.Y.) made 10 saves, but allowed 17 goals to suffer the loss.
The Rams held a 43-30 edge in total shots on Saturday, but only narrowly edged out the Knights in ground balls, 31-30. The Knights went a perfect 11-for-11 on clear attempts in the game.
The Knights will play their fourth straight Skyline Conference matchup on Tuesday, April 21, as they host the College of Mount Saint Vincent at Kaplan Field. It will also be Senior Day for the Knights, as they will honor their graduating players prior to the game. Tuesday's opening face-off is set for 6 p.m.
