Women’s Lacrosse Clinches Postseason Berth with 20-6 Victory over Sage

ALBANY, N.Y. – For the third straight game, the Mount Saint Mary College women's lacrosse team (7-5, 5-0 Skyline) scored 20 points, as the Knights defeated The Sage Colleges (1-9, 1-4 Skyline), 20-6, Tuesday evening at the University at Albany. In doing so, the Knights have also secured a berth into the Skyline Conference Championship Tournament.

The Knights qualify for their third straight Skyline Playoffs under head coach Julia Steese. They also secure their third straight season with five-or-more wins against the conference.

Junior midfielder Nicole Scicutella (Massapequa, N.Y.) became the single-season Mount Saint Mary women's lacrosse assists leader with four in Tuesday's win, setting a new record of 19. She also sits one assist shy of the program career record of 40.

The Knights opened the game with four straight goals before Sage finally got on the board. Before long, the Knights were headed to the locker room with a 14-4 halftime advantage, forcing a running clock in the second half.

Three consecutive goals to open the half put the Knights up by 13. The Gators scored two during the remainder of the game, but the Knights added three more to take home a 14-goal victory.

Scicutella added two goals to her four-assist evening for a game-high six points. Sophomore attacker Fae Kuhnen (Bayside, N.Y.) tallied four points on three goals and an assist. Sophomore attacker Katie Gattoni (Old Tappan, N.J.) scored three times and added an assist for four points of her own. She now has a new career-high of 47 goals.

In addition, junior attacker Jen Gries (Hicksville, N.Y.), who has come on strong since returning from injury, tallied a hat trick. Junior defender Claire Duffy (Monroe, N.Y.) scored three more goals as well, bringing her season total to 25, nearly doubling her previous career-best total of 13. She also secured 10 draw controls, which is good for the second-best single game total in program history.

Shirah Fudin provided nearly all of the Gators' offense in Tuesday's contest, as she scored five of their six goals. Monica Koralus scored the other, and assisted on one of Fudin's scores.

Freshman netminder Carly Lennon (Bellmore, N.Y.) secured the win with a pair of saves. Jackie St. Pierre allowed 19 goals, but stopped 13 shots for the Gators in the losing effort.

The Knights set a program record with 48 shots attempted in Tuesday's win. They more than tripled Sage's total of 15. They also won the draw-control battle, 20-6, and led with 13 ground balls to just eight for the home team.

Riding the hottest streak in program history, the Knights get a break from Skyline Conference play when they take on local rival SUNY New Paltz on Thursday, April 16, on the New Paltz Turf Field. The game is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
