Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Plattsburgh State, 25-4

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College men's lacrosse team (3-4) was defeated by Plattsburgh State University (5-3), 25-4, Saturday afternoon at Kaplan Field.
 
Plattsburgh State never trailed after the Cardinals took the lead 32 seconds into the game. Brendan Damm totaled eight points with four goals and four assists for the visitors. Ryan Hubbard scored six goals to lead all players. James Read and Ryan Callahan each tallied a hat trick on Saturday, while Austin Belz turned in four points on two goals and two helpers. Joey Kromer scooped up a game-high nine ground balls and went 17-of-27 on face-offs.
 
Senior midfielder David Hobbs (Baldwin, N.Y.) and freshman attackman Kenneth Gallagher (Northport, N.Y.) each scored two goals for the Knights. Sophomore attackman Joseph Rizzotti (East Meadow, N.Y.) and freshman midfielder Danny Kugler (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) each handed out an assist. Freshman attackman Sean Jennings led the home team with four ground balls, while Kugler caused two turnovers.
 
Matt Massaria earned the win for the Cardinals after making six saves and allowing three goals in the first half. Freshman goalkeeper Christopher Doerr (Pleasantville, N.Y.) also played just the first half, but gave up 16 goals and made 11 saves to fall to 3-4 on the season.
 
The Knights were outshot, 63-25, by the Cardinals on Saturday, including a 42-17 differential in shots on goal. Plattsburgh State picked up 54 ground balls, while the Knights grabbed 30. The Cardinals completed 20-of-22 clear attempts, while the Knights were good on 9-of-14.
 
The Knights will look to bounce back on Wednesday, March 25, when they take a trip over the bridge to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. for a matchup with Vassar College. The opening face-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
