Men’s Basketball Ends Short Drought with 75-52 Victory at Sarah Lawrence

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College men's basketball team (7-15, 6-9 Skyline) halted a two-game Skyline Conference drought by taking down Sarah Lawrence College (1-20, 0-15 Skyline) by a score of 75-52 Wednesday evening at Campbell Sports Center.

After some back-and-forth play to open the game, the Knights seized control with a 5-0 run that broke a 7-7 tie. A big three by sophomore guard Connor Nicholson (Staten Island, N.Y.) put the Knights up by 12 points, giving them a comfortable lead with 7:23 to go before the break. However, Keith Burns caught fire with a pair of threes late in the half, cutting the deficit to four with 2:26 left in the half. A flagrant foul called on the Gryphons gave freshman forward Gerard Nocera (Holmdel, N.J.) a pair of shots before the halftime buzzer, which he made to put the Knights up, 35-27, heading into the locker room.

After another three by Burns cut the Knight lead to seven, the Knights made sure not to let the Gryphons get any closer. The Knights led, 54-45, before going on a 15-1 run to push the advantage to an insurmountable 23 points with just 4:55 to play. They kept that lead intact through the final buzzer to pick up a much-needed Skyline win.

Freshman guard Tyler McDine (Suffern, N.Y.) went 9-of-13 from the field for 19 points, and dished out a game-high nine assists to fall one short of a double-double. Sophomore forward Alex Smith (Marlboro, N.Y.) extended his double-double streak to four games with 12 points and 11 boards. Freshman guard Daniel Wolff (Holtsville, N.Y.) contributed 11 points.

Stevan Radosavljevic led Sarah Lawrence with 14 points and nine rebounds Wednesday evening. Burns made four three-pointers for 12 points off the bench, while Jeff Jordan II matched him with 12 of his own.

The Knights were 32-of-66 (48.5 percent) from the floor Wednesday evening, including 7-of-17 (41.2 percent) from long range. They held the Gryphons to just 35.3 percent (18-of-51) shooting on the night. The Knights also outscored their hosts in the paint, 34-22.

With a win under their belt, the Knights now look to split the season series with SUNY College at Old Westbury, as they face-off with the Panthers on Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Kaplan Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
