Knights Stifled By Manhattanville, 50-35

Kelly totals seven points, nine rebounds

Purchase, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team suffered its second straight loss on Thursday evening with a 50-35 road defeat at Manhattanville. Sophomore Bridget Kelly (Farmington, Conn.) led the Knights with seven points and nine rebounds in the game.
 
Manhattanville jumped out to a big lead after 10 minutes of play after scoring 21 points and not allowing a tally in the opening period. The Knights were held off the board until a Kayla Cleare (West Hempstead, N.Y.) free-throw with 8:08 left in the second quarter. Mount Saint Mary's first field goal came with 3:26 left in the second period on a Taylor Calabrese (Levittown, N.Y.) layup.
 
The Valiants took a 25-8 lead into the intermission after holding Mount Saint Mary to 3-for-31 shooting in the first half. Manhattanville went 12-for-33 in the first 20 minutes and was led by seven points from Bri Pabon who went 3-for-7 from the floor.
 
The two teams played an even third quarter on Thursday, splitting the 26 total points. Mount Saint Mary outscored Manhattanville 14-12 in the final period, but could not get closer than 12 points in the second half.
 
Kelly and freshman Daisha Madden (Baltimore, Md.) led the Knights with seven points each, with Kelly hauling in a team-high nine rebounds. Jessica Rini (Seaford, N.Y.) added eight boards for the Knights, with Cleare totaling seven rebounds and adding four points.
 
The Valiants were led by 13 points from Ashley Raaf, who went 6-for-15 from the floor, and got 10 points from Pabon. Raaf matched the game-high with nine rebounds and Pabon led all players with five assists.
 
The Knights finished the game 13-for-62 from the floor and 9-for-21 from the free-throw line. Manhattanville went 21-for-56 on the night and scored 21 points off of 26 Mount Saint Mary turnovers.

Thursday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 1-2 overall on the season. Next up for the Knights is s date with Morrisville State to open the Pepsi Tip-Off Tournament at Susquehanna. Tip-off on Saturday is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
