Albany, N.Y. – In an important Skyline Conference regular season finale, the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team played Sage to a scoreless draw on Tuesday night. Senior
Austin Peluso (Farmington, Conn.) finished the game with eight saves in goal, matching his season-high in stops.
In a tightly contested game on Tuesday, Sage finished the night with a slim 16-15 advantage in shots, while shots on goal in the tilt were even at 8-8. Corner kicks went to Sage in the tilt 6-5 and fouls were whistled against the Gators 15-13.
Mount Saint Mary finished the first half with seven shots against the Gators, forcing Sage keeper, T.J. Zehner, to make four stops prior to halftime. Peluso closed the opening 45 minutes with half of his eight saves to lead the Knights into halftime deadlocked at 0-0.
After being outshot in the second half 6-4, the Knights recorded four of the six shots in the overtime periods, but could not find the game winning goal. Senior
Michael Ennis (Carmel, N.Y.) hit the crossbar with under a minute left in the first extra session and
Bereket Watts (Southold, N.Y.) forced Zehner to make a pair of stops in the second overtime period.
Freshman
Michael Blaauboer (Latham, N.Y.) led Mount Saint Mary with four shots and three shots on goal. Watts totaled three attempts for the Knights and Ennis finished the evening with a pair of shots for Mount Saint Mary.
Peluso made four more saves after halftime to finish the night with the eight stops, giving him 70 on the season. He picked up his third shutout of the season and the seventh blanking of his career. Zehner also posted eight stops for Sage, earning his 11
th win of the season.
Tuesday's draw moves Mount Saint Mary to 5-10-4 overall on the season and to 4-3-3 in league play. The Knights will await results from tomorrow's league contest which will impact a conference tournament berth.
