Match ResultsANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's tennis team (1-2) picked up its first win of the early season on Monday, taking down local rival Bard College (0-1), 8-1, on Bard's Stevenson Courts.
The Knights got off to a fast start, taking a 3-0 lead by sweeping the three doubles matchups. Juniors
Breanna Scott (Highland Falls, N.Y.) and
Katie Conroy (Middletown, N.Y.) took down Bard's Harriette Slagle and Beryl Taylor in a tight No. 1 doubles match, 9-8 (7-5). Freshman
Rebecca Tortora (Wolcott, Conn.) and sophomore
Isabella Tartaglione (Pine Bush, N.Y.) picked up an 8-0 sweep at second doubles over Caia Diepenbrock and Faye Forman. Freshman
Mallory Menneci (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and junior
Ellen Hendricks (West Point, N.Y.) rounded up doubles play with an 8-2 win at No. 3 over Mengzhen Chen and Yuanyuan Xu.
Scott took down Taylor in No. 1 singles play, 6-3, 6-2. Tortora had a tough match with Isabelle Scarborough, but came out on top, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), at No. 2. Tartaglione fell in a close match against Forman at No. 3, 5-7, 6-1, 10-4. Menneci also went three sets in her fourth singles match, but came out victorious over Diepenbrock, 4-6, 6-2, 6-0. Conroy defeated Chen at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-4, while Hendricks made quick work of Danielle Iserlis at sixth singles, 6-0, 6-0.
The Knights will look to put together a winning streak when they host Ramapo College on Friday, Sept. 19 on the Mount Saint Mary College Tennis Courts. The match is set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
