Box Score 2 NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team (6-9) had a rough go on the second day of the New Paltz Hawks Invitational, falling to Fredonia State University (6-6), 3-0 (25-7, 25-11, 25-12), before falling to Fairleigh Dickinson-College at Florham (8-8), 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-21), on Saturday at the Hawk Center.
The Knights hit just -.017 in their first match against Fredonia. Sophomore outside hitter
Rachel Sabatini (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) led the team with five kills. Fredonia's Jess DiChristopher had a match-high 10 kills, while Kelly Edinger dished out 34 assists.
The Knights fared better in their second match against FDU-Florham despite the three-set defeat, as they hit .160 as a team. Sabatini led once again with 10 kills and hit .409 in the match. Junior outside hitter
Kayla Kurka (Islip, N.Y.) threw down six kills, while senior middle blocker
Natalie Candarelli (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) and freshman middle blocker
Megan Williams (Glenmont, N.Y.) each contributed four. Sophomore setter
Kristen Maddock (Medford, N.Y.) passed out 17 assists, while junior right side
Kaitlin O'Brien (Staten Island, N.Y.) picked up a team-high 14 digs. FDU-Florham's Melissa Gaffney had a match-best 15 kills.
The Knights have a week off before traveling to Glassboro, N.J. for a tri-match at Rowan University. They will face off with Immaculata University at 1 p.m. before taking on Rowan at 3 p.m.
