Box Score 2 NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team (6-7) had a rough first day of the New Paltz Hawks Invitational, falling to the host Hawks (8-2), 3-0 (25-7, 25-17, 25-7), before dropping its second match to New York University (7-4), 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-18), Friday evening at the Hawk Center.
The Knights hit -.106 in their toughest match of the season against New Paltz. Senior middle blocker
Natalie Candarelli (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) and junior outside hitter
Kayla Kurka (Islip, N.Y.) tied for the team lead with three kills. New Paltz's Becca Borquist threw down a match-high six kills and hit .385 in the match.
The Knights had a tough time in their second match against NYU, falling by the same 3-0 score. Sophomore outside hitter
Rachel Sabatini (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) led the Knights with five kills in this match, while Kurka and Candarelli added four and three, respectively. NYU's Gigi Morally had a match-high seven kills, while Josie Luck and Katie Robinson each added six.
The Knights will look to bounce back tomorrow, Sept. 13, when they take on Fredonia State University at 11 a.m. and have a rematch from Wednesday evening with Fairleigh Dickinson-College at Florham at 1 p.m.
