Women’s Tennis Falls to Western Connecticut State, 8-1

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's tennis team (0-2) dropped its home opener to Western Connecticut State University (1-0), 8-1, Friday evening on the Mount Saint Mary College Tennis Courts.
 
Juniors Ellen Hendricks (West Point, N.Y.) and Kristen Weindorf defeated Western Connecticut's Nicole Salamacha and Alexandra Moravsky at third doubles, 10-8 (7-5), to pick up the Knights' only point of the match. Juniors Breanna Scott (Highland Falls, N.Y.) and Katie Conroy (Middletown, N.Y.) fell to Lianne Maynard and Olivia Mauro, 8-4, at first doubles, while freshmen Rebecca Tortora (Wolcott, Conn.) and Mallory Menneci (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) dropped their No. 2 doubles match to Angelica Jara and Alexandra Korik, 8-2.
 
Scott fell to Maynard at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0, and Tortora lost at No. 2 to Jara, 6-1, 6-4. Menneci dropped her third singles match against Korik, 6-2, 6-1, while freshman Carolina Molina (West Hempstead, N.Y.) was defeated by Melissa Osorio, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 4 singles. Conroy fell to Mauro at fifth singles, 6-2, 6-2, and Hendricks lost in the No. 6 match to Carine Jacque, 6-1, 6-1.
 
The Knights will look to bounce back on Monday, Sept. 15, when they take on Bard College. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m.
