Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MADISON, N.J. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team (6-5) took down Skyline Conference rival Maritime College (3-4) in a non-conference matchup, 3-0 (23-18, 25-17, 25-15), and then fell to Fairleigh Dickinson-College at Florham (6-6), 3-1 (26-24, 13-25, 25-17, 25-17), Wednesday evening at the FDU-Florham tri-match.

The Knights hit a solid .253 against Maritime en route to a three-set sweep. Junior outside hitter Kayla Kurka (Islip, N.Y.) led the team with 10 kills, while senior middle blocker Natalie Candarelli (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) led the team with a .417 hitting percentage to go with her six kills. Sophomore outside hitter Rachel Sabatini (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) added eight kills of her own. Sophomore setter Kristen Maddock (Medford, N.Y.) dished out 30 assists and five service aces.

The Knights were unable to keep their momentum going into their second match of the night, as they dropped a four-set match to the tri-match's host. The rested Devils pulled off a 26-24 victory in the first set to gain the advantage, but the Knights bounced back with a quick 25-13 win in the second game. They then fell to the home team, 25-17, in back-to-back sets to suffer the loss.

Kurka threw down another 12 kills, while Sabatini matched her performance in the night's opener with eight. Sophomore setter Claire Scully (Bloomfield, N.J.) passed out 32 assists, while freshman libero Chelsea Barberan (Fishkill, N.Y.) picked up 28 digs.

The Knights will participate in the New Paltz Hawks Invitational on Friday and Saturday, playing four matches across the two days. On Friday, Sept. 12, they will take on the host SUNY New Paltz at 5 p.m., and then face off with New York University at 7 p.m. Then on Saturday, Sept. 13, they will play Fredonia State University at 11 a.m., and then finish up the tournament with a rematch against FDU-Florham at 1 p.m.
