NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team (5-19, 5-8 Skyline) played its second-to-last contest of the season Friday evening, falling to Skyline Conference rival Purchase College (15-9, 9-4 Skyline), 71-58, at the Kaplan Center.

The first five minutes of Friday's contest went back and forth, but Purchase began to pull away at the 14:53 mark. Jess Lindsay sank a jumper to put the Panthers up, 12-11, sparking an early run that led to a double-digit lead. By the 8:14 mark, Purchase was up by 13 at 27-14, leading to the halftime score of 37-25.

Purchase kept its lead up in the high teens for much of the second frame, but the Knights slowly chipped away to cut the deficit. A mini run in the final minute by the Knights cut the Panther lead to 13 points by the final buzzer.

Jazmin Garcia was all over the stat sheet for the Panthers, scoring a game-high 24 points to go along with nine rebounds, seven assists and three steals. Jess Lindsay followed with 22 points and 10 boards for a double-double.

Senior forward Rachel Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y.) pulled down a rebound in the final 10 seconds to complete a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 boards. Junior forward Natalie Candarelli (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) contributed 15 points and seven rebounds, while junior guard Lauren Romao (Brick, N.J.) and sophomore guard Nicole Scicutella (Massapequa, N.Y.) each added 10 points.

The Knights shot 35.9 percent (23-of-64) on the evening, while their opponents made 44.6 percent (29-of-65) of their shots. Purchase held a 47-36 advantage on the boards, but turned the ball over 23 times to 21 for the Knights. Purchase took advantage of the Knights' mistakes, scoring 29 points off turnovers.

The Knights return to action for the final time this season on Sunday, Feb. 23, when they host SUNY College at Old Westbury in Skyline Conference action at the Kaplan Center. Sunday is Senior Day for the women's basketball team, as seniors Rachel Perrone, Jessica Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y.) and Kaeley Miller (Newburgh, N.Y.) will be honored prior to tip-off, which is scheduled for 1 p.m. Live video will be available for the Senior Day ceremony and Sunday's contest at MSMCKnights.com.
