Men’s Basketball Falls to Pacific Lutheran, 71-59

TACOMA, Wash. – The Mount Saint Mary College men's basketball team (0-2) closed out the Doug McArthur Classic, hosted by the University of Puget Sound, with a 71-59 loss to Pacific Lutheran University (1-1) Saturday afternoon.
 
The Knights held a five-point lead early in Saturday's contest, but Pac Lutheran came storming back to eventually close out the half with a 15-point lead. The Knights played a stronger second half, outscoring the Lutes, 36-33, but were unable to overcome the large deficit.
 
Bryce Miller turned in a double-double for the Lutes with 15 points and 10 boards. He also added three blocks. Brandon Lester led them with 19 points, while Jourdan Johnson dished out a team-high four assists.
 
Freshman forward Gerard Nocera (Holmdel, N.J.) had an impressive game, leading the Knights with 19 points and adding two steals. Freshman guard Daniel Wolff (Holtsville, N.Y.) contributed 12 points, seven boards and a game-high five assists.
 
Both teams shot well from the field, but the Lutes held the advantage with a 47.2 field-goal percentage, while the Knights shot 42.4 percent. The Knights had a hard time getting to the foul line, only attempting five free throws on the afternoon. The Lutes held a 38-27 advantage in rebounds.
 
The Knights will fly home early Sunday morning to get back to class and prepare for their last game before the Thanksgiving break. The Knights will take on SUNY New Paltz at the Hawk Center on Tuesday, Nov. 25. Tip-off is schedule for 5 p.m.
