OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team (18-16, 7-2 Skyline) closed out the regular season with a pair of victories in Saturday's Skyline Conference tri-match, hosted by SUNY College at Old Westbury. The Knights took down the College of Mount Saint Vincent (13-15, 6-3 Skyline), 3-1 (25-19, 25-23, 22-25, 25-19), and then defeated Old Westbury (2-20, 2-7 Skyline), 3-0 (25-8, 25-9, 25-7), to lock themselves into the No. 3 seed for the Skyline Conference Championship tournament.
The Knights played four close sets with Mount Saint Vincent, but managed to hold off the Dolphins and take third place in the conference. Sophomore outside hitter
Rachel Sabatini (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) led the Knights with 15 kills in their first win of the day, while also registering 15 digs. Junior right side
Maribeth Powers (Yorktown, N.Y.) hit .300 and added eight kills. Sophomore setters
Claire Scully (Bloomfield, N.J.) and
Kristen Maddock (Medford, N.Y.) matched each other with 17 assists, while Maddock added three aces. Freshman libero
Chelsea Barberan (Fishkill, N.Y.) picked up 22 digs for the Knights, and junior right side
Kaitlin O'Brien (Staten Island, N.Y.) served up a match-high seven aces.
Mount Saint Vincent's Maria Leineweber led the team with 11 kills, while Zana Daluz added seven. Nicole Henderson had a match-high 31 assists. Four different Dolphins picked up double-digit digs.
The Knights took care of the host Panthers in just 46 minutes to wrap up the day. They held their hosts to a -.179 hitting percentage and just 11 individual points in the entire match. Sophomore middle blocker
Marissa Howlett (Marlboro, N.Y.) led the Knights with 9.5 points off seven service aces, 1.5 blocks and one kill. Senior outside hitter
Katie Lynch (Island Park, N.Y.) had a match-best four kills, and sophomore outside hitter
Elizabeth Lavin (Hicksville, N.Y.) added three and hit .429 across three sets.
Old Westbury's Fareeda Roushdy and Gerlande Lucas tied for the team-high with three kills in the match. Rayn Brown had a match-high five assists.
With the No. 3 seed locked up, the Knights will host a quarterfinal matchup against No. 6 Maritime College on Wednesday, Nov. 5. The Knights have defeated Maritime twice this season, both by 3-0 decisions. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. in the Kaplan Center.
