Men’s Soccer Concludes Regular Season with 2-1 Victory at Yeshiva

RIDGEFIELD, N.J. – The Mount Saint Mary College men's soccer team (11-4-2, 8-1 Skyline) closed out the best regular season in program history on Sunday, defeating Yeshiva University (8-6-1, 2-5-1 Skyline), 2-1, in Skyline Conference action at Overpeck Park. The Knights finish the regular season with a program-best eight Skyline wins.

The Knights trailed early, as Aaron Braun put the Maccabees up 1-0 just 4:13 into the game. The Knights quickly put their worries to rest when senior midfielder Chris Marchese (Cold Spring, N.Y.), who is on what can simply be described as a hot streak, tied the game off a turnover in the 12th minute. Later in the first half, senior forward Matt Garcia (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) improved upon the program career goals record that he broke on Friday, scoring what proved to be the game-winner off an assist from Marchese in the 39th minute.

Junior goalkeeper Austin Peluso (Farmington, Conn.) was tested Sunday evening, but picked up the win after stopping eight shots. Maor Feinstein suffered the loss for Yeshiva, making three saves in the process.

Yeshiva outshot the Knights on Sunday, 14-10. The Knights held an 8-4 advantage in corner-kick opportunities.

The top seed heading into the Skyline Conference Championships, the Knights next play on Wednesday, Nov. 5, when they host a semifinal matchup at Kaplan Field. Their opponent will be determined on Saturday, Nov. 1, in the quarterfinal round of the conference tournament.
