Men’s Soccer Drops 2-1 Decision to New Paltz

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College men's soccer team (8-4-1) fell to nearby SUNY New Paltz (4-10-1), 2-1, in non-conference action Tuesday evening at Kaplan Field.

Jason Gonzalez struck twice for the Hawks in the second half, tying the game in the 55th minute, and giving New Paltz the lead at 78:25, to lead the visitors to victory.

Senior forward Matt Garcia (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) scored his sixth goal of the season at 3:53 to give the Knights a 1-0 lead in the opening minutes. His goal leaves him two shy of the program record of 25 career goals. Graduate student midfielder Sean Lockwood (Manahawkin, N.J.) assisted Garcia on the score with a cross from the wing into the box.

Steven Domino picked up the win for the Hawks, allowing one goal and stopping three shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Biscone (Garden City, N.Y.) suffered the loss, but made five saves.

The Hawks took a 12-7 advantage in total shots on the evening. The Knights picked up five corner kicks and allowed New Paltz just three.

The Knights will look to rebound from their two-game losing streak on Saturday, Oct. 18, when they take on Skyline Conference rival Purchase College. The game is set to begin in Purchase at 12 p.m.
