Women’s Basketball Drops 70-60 Decision at St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn

Box Score

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Though it played a competitive 40 minutes, the Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team (0-9) was unable to break into the win column, dropping a 70-60 decision at St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn (8-5) in a non-conference tilt Saturday evening at Brooklyn Technical High School.

Though their last lead in the game came with 13:11 to go in the first half, the Knights were never out of it, as they were within single digits until the final seconds of the game. A 12-4 run that was capped off by a three-pointer by sophomore guard Nicole Scicutella (Massapequa, N.Y.) knotted things up at 43-43 at the 12:26 mark in the second half. Some strong shooting kept the Knights within a score, as they trailed 52-50 at the 9:33 mark. A 10-4 run in the waning minutes gave the Bears a double-digit lead for the first time in the game, and they closed out the contest with a 10-point win.

Senior forwards Rachel and Jessica Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y.) each picked up a double-double in Saturday's matchup, Rachel with 12 points and 13 rebounds and Jessica with 11 points and 14 boards. Junior forward Natalie Candarelli (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) banked a team-high 17 points.

Kelly McNamee led the Bears with 18 points on the evening. Taylor Raccuglia picked up 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Samantha Retas recorded 10 points and 10 boards to give each a double-double.

The Knights shot 30.5 percent (25-of-82) from the field on Saturday and 66.7 percent (4-of-6) from the free throw line. They held a 58-48 edge in rebound over the hosts in the loss.

The Knights return to action with their first home game of the New Year and first Skyline Conference matchup of the season on Tuesday, Jan. 7, when they host The Sage Colleges at the Kaplan Center. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
