Box Score

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team (3-14, 3-4 Skyline) put in a stellar all-around effort to pick up its third win of the season to the tune of a 77-67 victory over Skyline Conference rival Purchase College (8-8, 4-4 Skyline) Thursday evening.

Senior forward Rachel Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y.) is still yet to cool off, picking up yet another double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. This marks her fourth double-double in a row and her fifth straight 20-point game. Junior forward Natalie Candarelli (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) also showed up big time for the Knights, scoring 18 points on 6-of-7 shooting.

The game was tight from the get-go, as neither team was able to take a lead greater than four points for the first 17 minutes of the game. The Knights broke that streak on senior forward Jessica Perrone's (Poughquag, N.Y.) jumper at 2:59 that gave the visitors a 40-35 edge. They went on to take a 46-42 advantage into the break after a pair of Candarelli free throws closed the half.

The pace of the game slowed after a high-scoring opening half, but it played to the Knights' advantage as they doubled up their hosts, 12-6, across the first 10 minutes of the second frame to take a 58-48 lead. The Panthers cut the deficit to eight at the 8:01 mark on a Kristine Viven trey, which was the last basket scored for almost three minutes. A steady back-and-forth pace kept the Knights at a safe distance before taking a 10-point advantage through the final buzzer.

Junior guard Lauren Romao (Brick, N.J.) and sophomore guard Nicole Scicutella (Massapequa, N.Y.) joined Rachel Perrone and Candarelli in the double digits with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Scicutella also added six boards and five assists. Jessica Perrone added eight points and 11 rebounds to the Knight attack Thursday evening.

Purchase was paced by Jazmin Garcia, who scored a game-high 23 points as well as 12 rebounds. Elizabeth Osowiecki followed with 15 points, while Lineker St. Hilaire added another 12 and dished out six assists.

The Knights made 44.8 percent (26-of-58) of their shots Thursday evening, including 7-of-16 (43.8 percent) from three-point range. They also sank 18-of-21 (85.7 percent) free throws. They also outrebounded their hosts, 43-34.

The Knights return to action on Saturday, Feb. 1, when they host Farmingdale State College at the Kaplan Center at 1 p.m. Saturday is also Super Fan Day at the Kaplan Center.
