Box Score 2 NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Desperately needing a win to put its season on track, the Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team defeated York College in straight sets on Saturday before falling to Kean University in straight sets for a 1-1 showing. The Knights are now 1-6 on the year.
In the opener against York, Mount Saint Mary prevailed 25-13, 25-14, and 25-21. Sophomores
Kayla Kurka (Islip, N.Y.) and
Maribeth Powers (Yorktown, N.Y.) each recorded seven kills to pace the Knights. Junior
Brianna Johnston (Breezy Point, N.Y.) served up a team-high five aces, while sophomore
Jen Gries (Hicksville, N.Y.) posted a team-high seven digs.
Later on against Kean, the Knights fell 18-25, 14-25, and 20-25. Sophomore
Kaitlin O'Brien (Staten Island, N.Y.) led the offense with six kills against zero errors. Juniors
Natalie Candarelli (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) and
Katie Lynch (Island Park, N.Y.) each added five kills, while Johnston posted a team-best eight digs.
The Knights host Rutgers-Newark on Tuesday, September 10 at 7:00 p.m.
