NEWBURGH, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College women's tennis team won four of the six singles matches on Sunday to claim its first win of the season, a 5-4 victory over Sarah Lawrence College in non-conference action in Newburgh.
With the match tied at 4-4, Mount junior
Alissa Niad (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) came through with the clinching point at second singles. Niad lost the opening set, 6-4, but rallied to win the next two, 6-4, 6-2, helping the Knights to the 5-4 win.
Senior
Jaimee Lubniewski (Middletown, N.Y.) also provided a key win with her triumph at the top of the lineup, ultimately prevailing, 6-2, 6-3. Senior
Jillian Torre (Bohemia, N.Y.) and sophomore
Breanna Scott (Highland Falls, N.Y.) also recorded singles victories for the Knights. Torre was a 6-0, 6-2 victor at third singles, while Scott nailed down a 6-2, 6-1 decision at fourth singles.
Lubniewski and Niad came through with the only doubles point of the day for the Mount with an 8-0 shutout at first doubles.
The Knights will have the week off before traveling to SUNY Cortland next weekend. The match is scheduled for noon on Sunday, September 29.
