Box Score 3 FLORHAM, N.J. – In a quad match at Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham, the Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team went 1-2, posting a win over Mount Aloysius College while falling to Marywood University and the hosts, FDU-Florham. The Knights are now 4-11 on the year.
The Knights opened the day with a straight sets loss to Marywood (22-25, 23-25, 18-25). Sophomore
Kayla Kurka (Islip, N.Y.) led the team with four kills, while sophomore
Kaitlin O'Brien (Staten Island, N.Y.) added a team-high eight digs.
Mount Saint Mary suffered a similar fate in match two, falling to FDU-Florham in straight sets (16-25, 15-25, 22-25). Kurka and O'Brien matched junior
Natalie Candarelli (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) for a team-high with five kills each. O'Brien and sophomore
Jen Gries (Hicksville, N.Y.) added eight digs apiece.
The final match of the day proved to be the most exciting by far, as the Knights prevailed in five sets (25-23, 22-25, 25-23, 13-25, 15-9). Freshman
Rachel Sabatini (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) was the star, posting a team-high 17 kills against just three errors. Junior
Katie Lynch (Island Park, N.Y.) contributed nine kills, while Candarelli pitched in with eight. Sabatini also posted 16 digs, but trailed junior
Brianna Johnston (Breezy Point, N.Y.), who finished with a team-high 18 digs. Freshmen
Claire Scully (Bloomfield, N.J.) and
Kristen Maddock (Medford, N.Y.) combined for 40 assists, Scully with 22 and Maddock with 18.
The Knights will host Hunter College in a non-conference match on Monday. The match is set for a 7:00 p.m. start in the Kaplan Center.
