Knights Edged By Sage

TROY, N.Y. – Despite capturing two of the three doubles matches, the Mount Saint Mary College women's tennis team lost to Sage, 6-3, in Skyline Conference action on Saturday.  The Knights drop to 0-3 overall (0-1 Skyline), while the Gators improve to 4-2 overall (1-1 Skyline).

Sophomore Breanna Scott (Highland Falls, N.Y.) and senior Jillian Torre (Bohemia, N.Y.) put the Knights on the board with an 8-5 decision at second doubles.  Junior Sarah Pimienta (Wurtsboro, N.Y.) and sophomore Ellen Hendricks (West Point, N.Y.) also came through with a victory, claiming an 8-3 win at third doubles.

Unfortunately, the Mount momentum would stop there.  Scott was the only player to record a singles win, taking a 6-3, 6-2 decision at fourth singles.  Torre was close in her match at number three, but eventually lost in a third set superbreaker (5-7, 7-5, 10-6).  Junior Alissa Niad (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) fell 6-4, 7-5 in the second spot, while senior Jaimee Lubniewski (Middletown, N.Y.) dropped her match, 6-2 and 6-4, at first singles.

The Knights return to action tomorrow as they play host to Sarah Lawrence College.  The match is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start in Newburgh.
