Mount Opens Skyline Play With Win

Box Score

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Sophomore Shanice Robe (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and junior Marissa Segreto (West Islip, N.Y.) each scored second half goals to send Mount Saint Mary College to a 2-0 victory over St. Joseph's College in the Skyline Conference opener for both teams.  The Knights improve to 3-3 overall, while the Golden Eagles drop back to 4-3.

Following a scoreless first half, Robe broke the scoreless tie with a nifty individual play in the 63rd minute.  The sophomore tracked down a loose ball in the corner, made several moves while cutting back towards the middle of the field and away from the end line, and then ripped a shot that sailed over the goalkeeper's hands and into the far corner of the net.

The Knights would put the clamps on the Golden Eagles over the next 20 minutes and Segreto put the game out of reach with an insurance goal in the 84th minute.  Freshman Alaina Neddermann (Prospect, Conn.) sent a long pass across the field from the left wing.  Sophomore Courtney McCarthy (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) flicked the ball on through a pair of defenders and Segreto finished off the play for her second goal of the season.

Mount senior goalkeeper Jacquelyn Mancini (Valley Stream, N.Y.) needed to make just two saves to earn her first shutout of the year.

The Knights make a quick turnaround with a trip to William Paterson University on Monday.  The game is set for a 7:00 p.m. start in Wayne, New Jersey.
