Mount Wins Second Straight

Box Score NEWARK, N.J. - Aided by an own goal and then first half tallies from juniors Meghan Moran (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) and Marissa Segreto (West Islip, N.Y.), the Mount Saint Mary College women's soccer team won its second straight game, defeating Rutgers-Newark by a final score of 3-0.  The Knights improve to 2-3 overall with the win.

Mount Saint Mary took a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute when a deflection by the Rutgers-Newark goalkeeper banked off a defender and into the back of the net.  Moran followed up in the 20th minute, putting home a cross from junior Nicole Gianotti (Massapequa Park, N.Y.).  Segreto wrapped up the scoring in the 44th minute when her shot from the left side of the 18-yard box caught the netting at the far post.

Goalkeepers Jacquelyn Mancini (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and Abigail McQuillen (Greenville, N.Y.) combined on the shutout.  Mancini made one save in the first half, while McQuillen came away with a pair of stops in the second half.

Mount Saint Mary returns to action on Saturday and will open up Skyline Conference play against St. Joseph's College.  The game is part of a soccer double-header at the Mount and is slated to start at 3:30 p.m.
