Box Score 4 NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Following a pair of losses on Friday evening at SUNY New Paltz's Hawk Invite, the Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team got on the board Saturday with a four-set win over SUNY College at Old Westbury. The Knights (3-9 overall) wrapped up the weekend with a loss to SUNY New Paltz.
Sophomore
Kayla Kurka (Islip, N.Y.) was the star against Old Westbury, racking up a match-high 18 kills against just two errors as the Knights rallied back from losing the opening set. Junior
Natalie Candarelli (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) added 12 kills to support the effort, while freshman
Kristen Maddock (Medford, N.Y.) dished out 39 assists. Sophomore
Jen Gries (Hicksville, N.Y.) posted a team-high 17 digs.
On Friday, the Knights dropped a pair of straight set matches to Ithaca College and Salisbury University. Freshman
Rachel Sabatini (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) led the way with eight kills against Ithaca, while Kurka and Candarelli added seven each. Gries racked up 15 digs. Sophomore
Kaitlin O'Brien (Staten Island, N.Y.) totaled five kills to lead the Mount's offense against Salisbury.
Against New Paltz on Saturday, junior
Katie Lynch (Island Park, N.Y.) posted five kills, while Kurka and O'Brien added four apiece. O'Brien also pitched in with 10 digs.
The Knights have the week off before returning to action next Saturday at FDU-Florham. During a quad match, the Mount will take on Marywood University, FDU-Florham, and Mount Aloysius College.
