Box Score 2 GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team opened up the 2013 season with a pair of losses at the Gettysburg Battlefield Classic on Friday. The Knights dropped a five-set match to Gallaudet University and fell in straight sets to Salisbury University.
In the opener, sophomore
Kaitlin O'Brien (Staten Island, N.Y.) led the way with 15 kills and 15 digs, while sophomore
Kayla Kurka (Islip, N.Y.) added eight kills and six aces. Freshman
Kristen Maddock (Medford, N.Y.) tallied 31 assists, while sophomore
Jen Gries (Hicksville, N.Y.) and junior
Brianna Johnston (Breezy Point, N.Y.) tied for a team-high with 18 digs each.
Kurka led the Knights in the match against Salisbury with six kills on 14 attempts. Gries and O'Brien tied for the team-high with 11 digs each, while Maddock recorded 16 assists.
Mount Saint Mary returns to action tomorrow as it takes on Stevenson University and Shenandoah University at day two of the Battlefield Classic.
