Box Score ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College men's basketball team broke open a close game by hitting 7-of-8 three-pointers late in the first half, and ran away with an 86-69 victory over Bard College in a non-league game on Wednesday night.
The Knights (15-7) had a 22-17 lead with 7:44 left in the first half when the shooting spree began, and when it ended, Mount Saint Mary had a 49-28 lead at the half. Five different players hit three-pointers in the stretch, including two each from
Joe Stabach (Staten Island, N.Y.) and
Ryan Straub (Massapequa, N.Y.).
Bard (4-17) didn't get closer than 16 points the rest of the way.
In all, the Knights hit a season-high 15 threes (15-for-27), and shot a better percentage from out there than they did from inside the arc (49.2%).
Mount Saint Mary placed four players in double figures, led by Straub, who went 4-for-5 from beyond the arc and finished with 17 points.
Donte Howell (Baldwin, N.Y.) had 15 points, six rebounds and six assists; Stabach finished with 14 points, and
Joe Henain (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) added 12 points, seven rebounds and one block.
Up next for Mount Saint Mary is a Skyline Conference game at College of Mount St. Vincent on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
Bard got 16 points from senior Jeremy Arnstein (Washington, D.C.) and 15 points and two blocks from freshman Brandon Cunningham (Bronx, N.Y.). The Raptors host RIT in a Liberty League game on Friday night at 8.
NOTE: Both coaching staffs worked barefoot for a charity called Samaritan's Feet. Prizes were raffled off and money donated will go to the global cause.
