NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team (0-7) fell to Hunter College (3-6), 77-62, Friday evening at the Hunter Sportsplex.
Hunter grabbed the lead early in the first half, and held it the rest of the way en route to a 15-point victory. Nicole Lenard led the Hawks with 25 points and eight assists on the evening, while Kirsten Markoe grabbed a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Ayanna Hudson pulled down a game-high 12 boards.
The Knights had a more balanced attack in Friday's loss, with four scorers picking up double-digit points. Junior guard
Lauren Romao (Brick, N.J.) led the Knights with 15 points, while junior forward
Natalie Candarelli (Cortlandt Manor, N.J.) and senior forward
Rachel Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y.) each banked 14 apiece. Senior forward
Jessica Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y.) also reached double-digits with 12 points. Twins Rachel and Jessica led the Knights with nine and eight rebounds, respectively.
The home team shot 41.7 percent (30-of-72) on the evening, compared to 36.9 percent (24-of-65) for the Knights. The Hawks outrebounded the Knights, 52-38. A big difference in Friday's matchup is the 34 points scored in the paint by the Hawks, outscoring the Knights by 22. In addition, Hunter picked up 18 second chance points, while the Knights had just one.
The Knights return to action on Monday, Dec. 9, when they host Rutgers-Newark for a 7 p.m. tip-off at the Kaplan Center.
