NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's soccer team (15-5-0, 8-0-0 Skyline) ten-game winning streak came to an end as they lost a heartbreaker in the Skyline Conference Championship, 2-0, to the No.2 seed Farmingdale State College (13-9-0, 7-1-0 Skyline) on Saturday afternoon at the Skyline Conference Fall Festival.
Saturday was the Knights' fourth consecutive year in the Skyline Finals, third year hosting, and they have left them empty handed each time. The Rams captured their seventh consecutive Skyline Women's Soccer Championship and handed the Mount its first shutout since Sept. 29, when they faced non-conference opponent St. John Fisher.
The game remained scoreless through the first half, and it was not until the 66th minute when Rams freshman midfielder Amanda Khare chipped the ball high and dropped it in over the keeper. Khare struck again in the final three minutes to make the final score 2-0. These were the only goals scored on the Knights this season by a Skyline Conference team.
Senior goalkeeper
Jacquelyn Mancini (Valley Stream, N.Y.) recorded two saves in the loss. Rams goalkeeper Breanna Blair registered seven saves and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Championship game.
The Mount outshot the Rams, 12-9, with junior defender
Jordyn Catapano (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) compiling a match-high three shots. The Knights held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Mount Saint Mary College women's soccer team finished the season 15-5-0 overall and beat The College of Old Westbury in a semifinal match on Wednesday, Nov. 6, allowing them to advance to the championship game.
