DANBURY, Conn. – Senior forward
Rachel Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y.) scored nine points Wednesday evening, pushing her career total past the elusive 1,000-point milestone, as the Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team (0-3) fell to Western Connecticut State University (3-0), 60-39.
A Purchase College transfer, Perrone scored 506 points with the Panthers before becoming a Knight. She now has 496 total points with the Black and Blue. Perrone added a team-high 10 rebounds Wednesday evening.
The Knights never led in Wednesday's contest. The Colonials opened the game with a three-pointer by Kerri Stolle and managed to hold the edge until the final buzzer.
West Conn was led by Colleen Cosker's 12 points, which were a game high. Chelsea Mone grabbed nine rebounds for the Colonials, while Stolle and Brittany Brandt each contributed nine points.
Junior forward
Natalie Candarelli (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) led the Knights with 10 points on the evening. Senior forward
Jessica Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y.) pulled down 10 boards, while junior guard
Lauren Romao (Brick, N.J.) tied for the game-high with four assists.
The Colonials shot 35.3 percent from the field on Wednesday, while the Knights shot just 30.9 percent. West Conn was strong on the glass, grabbing 48 rebounds to 36 for the Knights. That also led to a 14-5 advantage in second-chance points for the home team.
The Knights return to action on Saturday, Nov. 23, when they travel to Norwich University for a non-conference matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
