WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team (0-2) dropped a 58-46 decision to Johnson & Wales University (1-1) on Sunday in the consolation matchup of the Eastern Connecticut State Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Eastern Connecticut State University.
The Knights never led in Sunday's contest, as the Wildcats jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the opening minutes and never looked back. Johnson & Wales held a 30-23 edge at the break before outscoring the Knights, 28-23, in the second half to take home a 12-point victory.
The Wildcats were led by Jenna Juron's 17 points. She also grabbed eight rebounds. Valerie Arce and Kaitlin Kenney each had strong games on the glass, pulling down 13 and 12 boards, respectively.
Sophomore guard
Nicole Scicutella (Massapequa, N.Y.) led the Knights with 14 points on the afternoon. Senior forward
Rachel Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y.) tied for the game-high with 13 rebounds, while senior forward
Jessica Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y.) was close behind with 10.
Johnson & Wales shot just 30.2 percent from the field, but the Knights were only successful on 29.8 percent of shots. The Wildcats outrebounded the Knights, 59-49.
The Knights return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 20, when they travel to Western Connecticut State University. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
