WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team (0-1) dropped its season opener by a score of 94-50 at the hands of Hartwick College (1-0) on Saturday in the opening round of the Third Annual Eastern Connecticut State Tip-Off Tournament, hosted by Eastern Connecticut State University.

The Knights' only lead came on the first basket of the game, a jumper by senior forward Rachel Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y.). The Hawks quickly ran out to a 21-5 lead about 11 minutes into the game and never looked back. Hartwick took a 44-19 lead into the half, and then outscored the Knights, 50-31, in the second frame.

The Perrone twins combined for 29 of the Knights' 50 points in the game. Senior forward Jessica Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y.) led the team with 15 points in their opening contest, while twin sister Rachel added 14 and a team-high five rebounds. Junior forward Natalie Candarelli (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) added another 10 points.

Kait Veit led Hartwick with a game-high 21 points in the Hawks' win. Maria Foglia followed with 19 points, while Brittney Dumas fell just short of a double-double with 16 points and nine boards.

Hartwick shot 47.2 percent from the field on Saturday, while the Knights were able to hit 43.5 percent of their shots. The Hawks more than doubled the Knights on the boards, pulling down 46 rebounds to just 21 for the Mount.

The Knights return to action tomorrow, Nov. 17, when they take on Johnson & Wales University, which fell to tournament host Eastern Connecticut State earlier in the evening. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
