Desperation Buzzer Beater Downs Men’s Basketball as Knights fall to Moravian, 63-61

Box Score

BALTIMORE Md. – Moravian's Izel Dickerson tossed up and drained a desperation three-pointer from 50 feet out with no time left on the clock to give Moravian College (1-1) a 63-61 victory over the Mount Saint Mary College men's basketball team (0-2) Saturday night in the consolation game of the Blue Jay Invitational hosted by Johns Hopkins University.

The Mount took a 61-60 lead with 1.2 seconds remaining on the clock on senior forward Joe Henain's (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) put-back layup. Dickerson received the ensuing inbounds pass, dribbled once, and heaved it toward the basket to spoil what would have been a thrilling victory for the Knights.

Dickerson led Moravian with 16 points on the evening. He was named to the All-Blue Jay Invitational Team. Joining him was Knights' senior guard Donte Howell (Baldwin, N.Y.), who scored a game high 17 points in the loss.

The Knights opened Saturday's matchup with a 12-0, which included five points by Howell. The Knights went on to lead throughout the first half, taking a 28-22 lead into the break.

The tides turned in the second half, as Moravian grabbed a 34-32 lead on a Dickerson three at the 15:29 mark. Moravian took its largest lead with 5:06 remaining at 54-49, but the Knights battled back. Sophomore guard Stephen Steyer (Staten Island, N.Y.) dropped in a layup to knot things up at 54 apiece with just under four minutes remaining.

The teams traded baskets until Howell sank a shot from long range with 22 seconds to go to give the Knights a 59-58 lead. Dickerson nailed a jumper with six to go to retake the lead before Henain put Howell's miss back into the hoop to take the lead right back. This led to Dickerson's miracle shot that gave Moravian a two-point victory.

Senior forward Chris Pisciotta (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) picked up his first double-double of the season in the loss with 15 points and 10 boards. Henain almost had one as well, scoring 11 points and pulling down nine rebounds. Steyer scored eight points off the bench in 19 minutes of play.

Blake English scored 14 points and picked up six rebounds to help Moravian pull off the win. Cameron Cullen snagged a game-high 13 rebounds for the Greyhounds.

The Knights were the better team from the field, succeeding on 46 percent of their shots compared to 39.3 percent for Moravian. The Knights turned the ball over 13 times, but forced 14 from Moravian.

The Knights return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 19, when they travel to Manhattanville College for a non-conference matchup. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
