NEWBURGH, N.Y. – For the third straight year, the Mount Saint Mary College women's soccer team has reached the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro Region Women's Soccer Tournament semifinals. The second-seeded Knights host No. 3 Kean University tomorrow, Nov. 16, at 11 a.m. at Kaplan Field.
The Knights reached the semifinals by defeating Hartwick College, 2-0, Wednesday evening at Kaplan Field. The win marked the 100th victory for head coach Frank Martini over his tenure at Mount Saint Mary College. With the win, the Knights earned the right to host the semifinal and final rounds of the Metro Region Tournament. Kean defeated the Mount's Skyline rival, The College of Old Westbury, on Wednesday to reach Saturday's semifinal.
Joining Mount Saint Mary and Kean are No. 1 Richard Stockton College and No. 4 St. Joseph's College (L.I.). Stockton and St. Joseph's will face off at Kaplan Field on Saturday at 2 p.m. The winners of the semifinal matchups will go head-to-head on Sunday, Nov. 17, at noon in the tournament final.
The Knights are led into action by sophomore forward
Shanice Robe (Valley Stream, N.Y.) who led the Skyline Conference with 53 points and 25 goals, earning her Skyline Women's Soccer Player of the Year honors. Earlier this season, Robe set a new program career mark with 60 goals. She now stands one point shy of the career points record of 128.
Junior defender
Marissa Segreto (West Islip, N.Y.) has 21 points for the Knights on eight goals and five assists despite missing time with an injury. Junior midfielder
Vanessa DiSilvio (Massapequa, N.Y.) leads the team with six assists.
Defensively, the Knights were the strongest team in the Skyline Conference. Senior goalkeeper
Jacquelyn Mancini (Valley Stream, N.Y.) currently holds a 0.77 goals against average and .794 save percentage to go along with her eight shutouts. She is helped in the backfield by senior defender
Tara McDermott (Tewksbury, N.J.), who was named Skyline Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
Angie Lopez and Sam Marchetti have each picked up 21 points this season to lead the Cougars. Lopez scored a team-high 10 goals. Shannon Pedersen has dished out a team-best seven assists this season.
Cougar keeper KC Nunez has recorded four shutouts this season to go with her 1.41 goals against average. She has stopped 83 shots for a .790 save percentage.
The Knights enter Saturday's matchup with a 10-1-0 record on their home turf. Kean holds a record of 5-2-2 on the road this season.
